LandmarkGo ("we", "us", or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your data.

By using the App, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy.

Data We Collect

a) Account Information

When you create an account, we collect:

  • Email address
  • Username (chosen by you)
  • Password (stored securely; we never store plaintext passwords)

b) Location Data

LandmarkGo is a location-based app. We collect your GPS coordinates when you use the App — specifically when you view the map, check in at landmarks or Local Favourites, or use the nearby feature. Check-in coordinates are stored on our servers to validate that check-ins occur at the correct physical location and to prevent cheating.

Location is only accessed when the App is open and in the foreground. While the App is active, we poll your location approximately every 60 seconds or when you move 500 meters, to keep the map and nearby features up to date. We stop all location tracking when you close or background the App.

c) Photos

When you submit a check-in with a photo, the photo is uploaded to our secure cloud storage and is visible to other users in the activity feed.

d) Usage Data

We collect data about how you use the App, including:

  • Landmarks and Local Favourites you visit and check into
  • Points earned, badges unlocked, and leaderboard activity
  • Social interactions (follows, activity feed views)

e) Device & Technical Data

We may collect:

  • Device type and operating system
  • App version
  • Crash reports and error logs (via Sentry, our error monitoring provider)
  • Anonymous analytics to improve the App

How We Use Your Data

We use your data to:

  • Operate and provide the App's core features (check-ins, map, leaderboards, social)
  • Validate check-ins and prevent cheating (server-side location verification)
  • Display your profile, activity, and stats to you and to other users (username, points, badges, check-ins)
  • Send you important account communications (password reset emails)
  • Monitor and fix bugs and crashes
  • Improve the App based on usage patterns

Data Shared with Other Users

The following information is visible to other users of the App:

  • Your username
  • Your profile photo (if set)
  • Your total points and level
  • Your leaderboard ranking
  • Your check-in activity (landmarks and Local Favourites visited, photos submitted)
  • Your badges and achievements
  • Your follower/following counts
Your email address and exact GPS coordinates are never visible to other users.

Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services to operate the App:

Data Retention

  • Account data: Retained as long as your account is active.
  • Check-in and location data: Retained as long as your account is active.
  • Photos: Retained as long as your account is active or until you delete a specific check-in.
  • Error logs: Retained for up to 90 days.
When you delete your account, all your personal data — including your profile, check-ins, photos, and visits — is permanently deleted from our systems.

Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights:

  • Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Correction: Request correction of inaccurate data.
  • Deletion: Request deletion of your account and all associated data. You can do this directly in the App under Profile → Delete Account.
  • Portability: Request your data in a portable format.
  • Objection: Object to certain types of processing.

Children's Privacy

LandmarkGo is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, please contact us and we will promptly delete the account.

Security

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your data, including:

  • Encrypted data transmission (HTTPS/TLS)
  • Secure authentication via Supabase Auth
  • Row-level security on all database tables — users can only access their own data
  • Server-side validation of all check-in actions
  • Passwords are hashed and never stored in plaintext

No system is 100% secure. If you believe your account has been compromised, change your password immediately and contact us.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this policy. Continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
